Accessibility Statement

Commitment to Accessibility

Pirates Cove is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability, technology, or environment. We strive to ensure our site meets high standards of accessibility and usability for all users.

Accessibility Standards

This website complies with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
In addition, we have tested the site following the Trusted Tester Process v5.1.3 and the All Baseline Tests for Web, which provide thorough methods for evaluating accessibility based on technical standards and user experience.

What We’ve Done

We have taken a range of steps to ensure our content is accessible:

  • Semantic HTML is used to support assistive technologies such as screen readers.

  • All images and non-text content include meaningful alternative text.

  • All interactive elements (buttons, links, and form inputs) are operable using keyboard navigation alone.

  • Headings are used in a clear, logical order to support easy navigation.

  • Form fields are labeled clearly, with helpful instructions and visible error messages.

  • No flashing content is used that could cause seizures or discomfort.

  • We carry out ongoing manual and automated testing to monitor and improve accessibility.

Non-accessible Content

The content listed below is not fully accessible for the following reasons:

Meriq Booking Iframe

The Meriq booking iframe on the Book Now page is not fully accessible. Users relying on screen readers or keyboard navigation may experience difficulty interacting with this embedded booking system.
To provide a better, though still imperfect, alternative, we have included a link that opens the Meriq booking page in a new browser tab. This external page is somewhat more accessible, but it still presents several accessibility barriers, including missing labels, insufficient keyboard focus management, and poor heading structure.

Brand Colour Contrast

Some parts of the website use brand colours that do not meet the minimum contrast ratio requirements under WCAG 2.2. These colours are part of Pirates Cove’s established visual identity.
We are working to strike a balance between brand consistency and accessibility, and will continue to explore design adjustments or alternatives to improve readability for all users.

A “Skip to content” link is available at the top of each page to help users who rely on keyboards or screen readers. This link allows users to skip repetitive navigation menus and go straight to the main content.

Some automated tools may identify this link as being outside of a landmark region. This is intentional and designed to ensure it is the first element encountered by assistive technologies.
No accessibility issues have been reported by users during testing of this feature.
